A-Z Wedding Theme Ideas

You've found the love of your life, and now you're ready to take the plunge into the wild world of wedding planning!

What will your wedding theme be??

Some couples know exactly what they want... They've been dreaming of their fairy tale wedding since they were old enough to pronounce the word "matrimony!" But for the rest of us mere mortals, picking a theme can feel like trying to choose between a buffet of delicious desserts. Each one looks delightful! But dabbling in too much all at once will result in a stomach ache (for the eyeballs?). Are you sticking with me here?

Below I'll share some tips on how to pick a theme and then I'll recap all the wedding themes I've put together so far!

Tips for picking a wedding theme:

  1. Make Pinterest Your BFF: Ah, Pinterest, the black hole of wedding inspiration. You innocently search for "rustic chic weddings," and before you know it, you're knee-deep in a DIY project involving mason jars, burlap, and fairy lights! Pinterest can be an incredibly useful tool when used correctly. Start a general search and then narrow down as you go - taking notes about what you're liking and disliking. Build a vision board to help you share your design thoughts with others! Just keep your expectations in check and keep your partner involved in this search.

  2. Reflect Your Personalities: Your wedding should reflect who you are as a couple. Consider your interests, hobbies, and shared experiences. Whether you're into vintage vibes, modern elegance, or rustic charm, let your personalities shine through in your chosen theme. It's important for both partners to be seen and heard in these decisions, make time for it and work on those compromising skills! Remember, you and your partner are on the same team.

  3. Set Boundaries with Family Intervention: Brace yourself for the onslaught of opinions from well-meaning family members. Your mom thinks a traditional church wedding is the only way to go, while your eccentric aunt suggests a Renaissance-themed extravaganza complete with jousting knights. Make sure you and your partner communicate YOUR desires to each other before everyone else buys you a planning binder!

  4. Understand Your Budget: A destination wedding on a private island sounds dreamy, but unless you've got a spare yacht lying around, it might not be the most practical choice. Take a long, hard look at your budget and remember that you can have a magical wedding without bankrupting yourself. Keep your budget in mind when searching through theme and decor ideas.

  5. Consider the Season and Venue: The time of year and location of your wedding can greatly influence your theme. A beach wedding in the summer might lend itself to a tropical or nautical theme, while a winter wedding in a cozy lodge could inspire a rustic or holiday-themed celebration. This will also help you with your color palette!

  6. Just Roll with It: In the end, remember that your wedding theme doesn't have to be perfect. It just has to reflect you and your partner's personalities and love for each other. Whether you end up with a whimsical garden party or a rock 'n' roll extravaganza, as long as you're surrounded by the people you love, it'll be a day to remember.

Now let's get into some examples!

I've shared close to a hundred wedding theme examples on my socials! Today, I've put them all together in a simple mood board and share the direct link to the video if you'd like to get more explanation and input!
